In this study, the researcher proposed that undergraduate students who engaged themselves in non-cognitive activities within an institutional climate are more likely to be academically successful. Implications for student affairs professionals and future direction of research are discussed.
This study, the researcher proposed that undergraduate students who engaged themselve in non-cognitve within an institutional climate are more likely to be academically successful. The relationship between students’ engagement trends and academic outcome (GPA) were examined by using a sample of 355 freshmen students and 315 senior students attending Norfolk State University during spring of 2006.

About the Author
Dr. Melius completed her doctorate in social work at the Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work at Norfolk State University with specialized training in community development. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Social Work at Wiston-Salem State University, North Carolina.
