Review

“Dynamic Supply Chainscan be considered a “magnum opus” in every sense of the term…The practical advice is sound, the examples and anecdotes are telling, and the explanations of the core concepts are clear. Most important, the book really gets you thinking differently—and realistically—about how to take supply chain performance to a new level. Check it out; it’s definitely a worthwhile investment.”

Francis J. Quinn, Editorial Director,SupplyChain Management Review

"I advise organizations on supply chain management and performance improvement on adaily basis. I am naturally drawn to the subject of organizational theory: leadership, management approaches, industrial and organizational studies, etc. – since I was a first year student at the university. I spend significant amount of time reading books and articles trying to understand how organizations and management approaches have evolved over the past ten centuries, and in understanding the anatomy and physiology of future organizations and industries. John Gattorna’s book, “Dynamic Supply Chains: Delivering Value Through People”, is so amazing I found myself reading it for the second time, all the way from page xi. This book is so good I almost underlined every sentence in agreement. “Dynamic Supply Chains” inspired me to undertake a research study on value networks. I would like to thank John for sharing his knowledge and wisdom with us."

About the Author

John Gattornahas been working in and around corporate logistics networks and supply chains for over two decades. In the late 80s, disenchanted with the lack of predictive power in the logistics theories and practices of the day, he set out to find a new business model that would better inform the design and operation of enterprise supply chains. And he succeeded. It has taken a lot of field work to uncover the secret sauce he was looking for, but the results of this journey are fully documented in this, his latest book.

Those familiar with John’s work freely acknowledge that he is one of the most influential contemporary ‘thought leaders’ working in the supply chain domain. Indeed, many of the best global companies have already begun to adopt his ‘dynamic alignment’ model, with significant positive results: a doubling of margins; big increases in sales revenue through increased customer satisfaction; lower cost-to-serve across the board as a result of identifying and eliminating unnecessary over-servicing. John’s books have been translated into Chinese, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian.

Apart from being a prolific writer on the subject, John teaches at several universities around the world, speaks regularly at international conferences, and advises boards and the C-suite of several multi-national companies on how to apply alignment principles to their businesses. He lives in Sydney, Australia, is married, and has two sons and four grandchildren.
