Long, short, loose or tailored―for 3,000 years, pants have been as much of a societal staple as a cultural flashpoint. Through a Z-bound selection of 70 examples, Barbara Vinken weaves a sartorial narrative from the primitive trousers of the Bronze Age to the slacks worn by “rebellious” women in pursuit of equality.
