Virtuoso Technique on Electric Bass: Classical Etudes Vol. 1

A string player in a conservatory will study scales, arpeggios, etudes, and learn how to play many of the masterpieces written by various composers. The road map for the electric bassist is similar to this. A modern electric bass player can and should likewise master his/her scales and arpeggios. There are many books available to assist the electric bassist with this. The bass player can and should also listen to and study the bass lines from excellent bass players from diverse styles of music. The one area lacking for the electric bassist is in the area of etudes or studies.

Therefore, in my quest for study material for the electric bass, I decided to borrow from the tried and true classical methodologies. I researched the most commonly used courses of study in conservatories today. I read autobiographies and recommendations of virtuoso string players to see what they studied and what they taught their students. And finally, I played and listened to hundreds and hundreds of etudes to determine which ones provided educational value for an electric bass player. The book that you have before you now is the result of all of my research. This was my own practice material for many years.
