Book Description
Vascular Surgery: Cases, Questions and Commentaries 2nd ed. Edition second edition is a unique collection of real life case histories written by experts to highlight the diversity of problems encountered in vascular surgery.
Each case scenario is interspersed with questions that aim to engage the readers to the management of the patient and give them an opportunity to test their knowledge. The comments are formulated upon evidence-based medicine and provide answers to the questions.
This book is an essential teaching resourse for vascular trainees or practitioners who are reviewing for the oral board exam or practitioners who wish to refresh their expertise with an interactive source of information. It also provides established practitioners the wherewithal to review the current standards of practice in vascular surgery.
Editorial Reviews
Review
From reviews of the 1st edition:
“This book is one of the first modern applications of problem-related total-learning, considering the vascular patient and his disease problem as a complex entity, requiring a well-considered and careful approach. The basic principle throughout the books is “evidence-based” medicine. The book reads easily (short chapters from 3 to 5 pages, exposing a real vascular case, followed by questions and discussion). An ideal book for self-assessment and continued medical self-education for vascular fellows and established active vascular surgeons.” (Hendrik Van Damme, ActaCardiologica, 2004;59(3):361-362).
“This is a thoroughly international book with experts coming together from Rome, Los Angeles, Guilford, Denver, New South Wales, and even Brooklyn. The book should be in the libraries of teaching vascular units. Senior residents assigned to vascular surgery and fellows in vascular surgery will profit by dipping into it before going to case presentations. They will learn how to ask and sometimes even answer questions.” (John Bergan, Annals of Vascular Surgery, March 2005)
“It is an applied book that aims to address the topical problems and issues experienced in vascular practice and, as such, complements many of the rather dry textbooks that exist. It is a welcome and effective aid to self learning and assessment for the senior trainee as well as being of value to the practicing vascular specialist.” (J. Brittenden, The British Journal of Surgery, 2004;91(2):255.)
From the Back Cover
This updated and revised second edition of Vascular Surgery: Cases, Questions and Commentaries provides a thorough overview of the management principles of clinical cases in vascular surgery. It also summarizes all the relevant topics the vascular trainee is expected to be familiar with.
With an international panel of contributors, many of whom are also examiners on the UK, European or American Boards in Vascular Surgery, this book familiarizes the reader quickly with day-to-day clinical practice. Case presentations are presented in question-and-answer format and have been widely referenced to reassure the reader that the contents are established best practice. Most cases are accompanied by multiple x-rays or color illustrations for visual clarity.
This book serves as a teaching resource for vascular trainees or practitioners who are reviewing for the oral board exam or practitioners who wish to refresh their expertise with an interactive source of information. It also provides established practitioners the wherewithal to review the current standards of practice in vascular surgery.
