As a Superintendent of a public school district, and having taught numerous graduate level classes in Educational Leadership, I find this book provides a roadmap for developing leadership traits and values. In the age of educational accountability this is a professional resource for those interested in building a learning culture.

Dr. Norton and Dr. Kelly have captured the true essence of what is required to become a highly effective school principal and instructional leader. Surely, those who read nd apply the knowledge and skill sets will enable hundred of school principals to implement a positive and effective school leaning and working culture resulting with significant increase of student academic progress and advancement.

Fair or not, principals are the keystone to effective schools. Authors Norton and Kelly have successfully identified and described the essential components that effective learning leaders use to translate their vision into successful student achievement. Current principals would be well served to use The Principal as a Learning Leader to monitor and adjust their own practices. Likewise the book should be a “must read” for aspiring principals passionate about advancing the “learning for all” mission.

I found this book to be a very good resource for practicing administrators. Your book will provide expertise in a variety of areas; such as preparing, equipping and enabling the administrators and staff for a learning-centered school; the importance of a healthy school environment for fostering student achievement; and how to plan, organize and implement effective programs of collaboration and partnerships to promote student learning.
