Book Description
the Bobbio Missal is in the oldest complete Latin Mass Book in Christianity, copied by an unknown scribe in Northern Italy during the closing years of the 7th century. The monastic penmanship is examined by present-day scholars in the art of calligraphy. Its letterforms offer unmatched examples of the imperishable Alphabetum romanum that survived the night and fog of the Dark Ages. The format is still classified as Roman Quadratic. Only when placed within its historical chronology does the connective role played by the Bobbio Missal become clear in the 2000-year course of the Roman Rite. Of all the Roman milestones that have come to mark the route of the Latin Mass, none seem to express its validity so fully as the Bobbio Missal.
