Jan Schäpers wurde in Hattingen geboren. Er schloss sein Studium der Wirtschaftswissenschaft an der Universität Bochum 2007 mit dem Diplom ab. In 2012 folgte die Promotion als externer Promovend an der Fakultät für Wirtschaftswissenschaft. Im Rahmen seiner Anstellung bei einem Softwareunternehmen sammelte er zahlreiche Erfahrungen bei der Abwicklung nationaler und internationaler IT-Projekte.
