Book Description

Perry grew up in northern Indiana in the small town of Culver. Both his father and mother were high school teachers. As a teenager he was a great athlete and was even chosen to train for the Olympics in the Pentathalon event. In his junior year of high school he attended Interlochen Arts Academy and was hooked on singing and performing. He went on to receive his vocal training at Oberlin Conservatory, where he studied with the late Richard Miller, and at Indiana University, where he studied with Elizabeth Mannion and Jean Deis. He has coached with Joan Dornamann, Julius Herford, Birgit Nilsson, and numerous opera coaches in Germany and Austria. After attending the American Institute of American Studies in Graz, Austria, he accepted a contract at the Porzheim Stadttheater. He returned to the US and presently lives with his wife and two children and is a Professor of Voice and Vocal Pedagogy at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.
