Book Description

The Theory and Philosophy of Organizations makes a major contribution to the debate on the status of organizational theory as a discipline. The volume is divided into three sections exploring issues under the headings `theory’, `anasis’ and `philosophy’. In each, the limitations of `traditional’ or `scientific’ organizational paradigms are illuminated and new forms of interpretation offered.

Editorial Reviews

Review

`Bombadiers all, the authors take the territory of organization theory from the air…Everything is a target: organization, culture, time, systems theory, method, positive social science, modernity, and even the idea of paradigms. Many of (their) smarter bombs strike at key vulnerabilities with an uncanny accuracy.’Administrative Science Quarterly

`This is an important set of readings. We are on high ground here with organization theory and analysis being set firmly within the framework of social theory and the philosophy of social enquiry.’Work, Employment and Society

‘The book lives up to its title. I would strongly recommend this book to the enthusiastic philosopher of organisations.’ –J.Keri Davies, Management in Education

Book Description

It is thought that Swift was opposed to the new science that heralded the beginning of the modern age, but this book interrogates that assumption, tracing the theological, political, and socio-cultural resonances of scientific knowledge in the early eighteenth century, and considering what they can reveal about Swift’s imagination.
