Somebody Thinks This Is Somewhere charts an epic road trip taken in 2010 by a British couple who quit their jobs to go and explore the American musical landscape. Rock n’ Roll, along with its near and distant kin like Country, Hip-Hop and Jazz, helped create the mythology of the U.S.A. with a song about every state, county, city, suburb and hood in the whole darned country.

Starting with a list of over 12,000 songs Ged and Carol drove 10,000 miles in 53 days. Eschewing the guide book for the songbook they visited a rattle bag of American nooks and crannies. From a megalopolis like Los Angeles to a wide spot in the road called Marysville they proved that everywhere in America can honestly say somebody thinks this is somewhere.

But just why did everybody from Bruce Springsteen to N.W.A, and from Johnny Cash to Duke Ellington chose to immortalise somewhere in America in song?
The answer to that question was never going to be found sat at home amongst the books and the records of their lifetime. That answer would only be given up on a road which stretched from sea to shining sea and back again.

Doing America by song took them through a world plagued with arctic conditions, midnight meth head arguments, right wing talk radio shows, extreme poverty and extreme wealth, an astounding array of dive motels, the SXSW music festival and the blandest cheese known to man.

All of which helped form a bizarre yet insightful portrait of a nation that is obsessed with itself. And explained why every one horse, two bit town in America has a song named after it?
