Inspired by Louis Simpson’s wondrous and dreamlike poem, The Troika, this remarkable, new piano sonata by composer Damon Ferrante (2014 Simkins Award Winner) is a thrilling addition to the repertory!
This fiery and lyrical piano sonata blends the Classical and Romantic styles of Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin, and Schumann with modern, highly colorful melodies, polyphony, and rhythms–from gestures evocative of falling snow to a wild, midnight ride through a winter landscape.
Performed hundreds of times throughout the United States and Europe, Snow Moon: Piano Sonata, serves as an excellent companion piece on concert programs featuring standard-repertoire works.
Tim Smith of the Baltimore Sun calls Ferrante’s music “focused and colorful…with an unexpected, decidedly poetic touch.”
The duration for the work is 20 minutes.

Review
The Baltimore Sun calls Ferrante’s music “focused and colorful…with an unexpected, decidedly poetic touch” and “ebullient and full of shifts of direction.”
“If the tune has the elegance of traditional opera, the harmonization is very modern as the vocal lines climb and descend the melodicstaircases that Ferrante has constructed for them.”
The Baltimore City Paper
“Damon Ferrante is a star on the rise.”
The Ridgewood News
“Damon is a musical storyteller. He has a narrative gene that allows him to write music like a novelist.” Daniel Mark Epstein, award-winning music writer
“From the first few notes in the opening movement, one is immediatelycaptivated; thrown into a musical landscape of mystery and passion, itsmelody satiates every perceptual organ in the body and the mind…and, without questionepitomizes the intrigue of human expression, taken to its deepest depths by Ferrante.” Stephan Dalal, WKCR-FM
From the Author
Snow Moon, although modern in its basic character, is inspired by the piano music of the 19th Century and would make a good addition to a concert program featuring pieces from that period.
