Prior to 1924 candidates were kown to the public by their photographs and by the printed versions of their major speeches published in the press. Dr.Ranson received his Ph.D. and M.A in American Studies from University of Manchester in the UK. Dr. Ranson is an Honorary Lecturer in History at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland.
