Book Description
This program is specifically intended for adolescents suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder. Clients are exposed to safe but anxiety-provoking situations as a way of overcoming their trauma-related fears. Recounting the memory of the trauma also helps clients emotionally process their traumatic experiences in order to diminish PTSD symptoms. The workbook is designed for adolescent use and includes teen-friendly forms to reinforce the skills learned in therapy.
Editorial Reviews
Review
“This is a well developed, thorough protocol for the treatment of PTSD in adolescent victims of trauma…As expected from these authors, the program is well grounded in empirically supported methods of trauma exposure…The manual is developmentally sensitive and provides guidance for the therapist in working with adolescents. There are excellent handouts and case examples throughout the manual.” –Anne Marie Albano, Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Columbia University/New York State Psychiatric Institute
“For readers with a background in CBT and PE therapy, this is a quick reference that guides them in the adaptation of PE therapy for PTSD to an adolescent population. It is a worthwhile purchase along with the workbook, but will not be helpful for therapists wanting to learn PE therapy.”–Doody’s Health Sciences Review
