This book, now in its fourth edition, aims to promote a deeper understanding of the scientific and clinical basis of nuclear medicine and the new directions in medical imaging. The new edition has been revised and updated significantly to reflect recent changes and to ensure that the contents are in line with likely future directions. In addition to that, chapters have been reorganized in order to simplify the contents and to increase the readability. The book starts by providing essential information on general pathophysiology, cell biology and biologic effects of ionizing radiation followed by the mechanisms of radiopharmaceutical localization in different tissues and cells. About the Author
Abdelhamid H. Elgazzar graduated from the University of Cairo, School of Medicine, Cairo, Egypt. He received his training in Clinical and Anatomic Pathology at the University of Kansas, School Of Medicine and his Nuclear Medicine training at the University of Cincinnati, School Of Medicine, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Professor Elgazzar is board certified by the American Board of Anatomical and Clinical Pathology as well as by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine. In addition to that he is a fellow of the College of American Pathologists. He worked as a faculty staff at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine, the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York and as a Head of Nuclear Medicine Department at Tufts Medical Center, Boston. Currently, Professor Elgazzar is a professor and chairman of the Nuclear Medicine Department at Kuwait University. During his career he has received 14 awards from several international professional organizations. He is member of the editorial board of several medical journals and has authored and co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific articles and has authored and edited 10 textbooks and six book chapters. In addition to that, he has served as a reviewer of the Journal of Nuclear Medicine and several other medical journals.
