Book Description

“New Business of India” is focused on how to successfully enter the Indian domestic market, which is currently growing at nearly 10% per annum. The book is important as it is based on first-hand experience and insights into understanding the market in India, establishing a company and business, and developing the marketing and sales program for both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) companies. Serving as a comprehensive introduction to entering the market, this book, in short, is able to take business planners and developers working in both large and small companies through the processes they must address in order to establish a successful business in India at a time when there is a first-mover advantage.

Editorial Reviews

Review

I approached Paul Davies’s new book, New Business in India, from two perspectives: as a global executive having worked in three continents helping clients become part of the new economy in Asia, especially India and from the perspective of investors and private equity engagements with India. India is important as a powerhouse economy, with enough momentum to come through a global slowdown and America’s engagement with India shows this. Foreign direct investment (FDI) in India is beginning to approach the levels into China and the bulk of this comes from the US. What America inc is doing with its money shows how timely and essential for every US corporation, from mid cap upwards this new book is. India has so far been offshoring and outsourcing IT, business processes and call centres. The dynamic manufacturing base, the rapidly growing pharmaceutical industry, the amazing growth in construction and telecoms are now the drivers in India. Davies even shows how the media industry, focused on Bollywood, is a magnet for advertisers, animators and producers throughout the world. The upwardly mobile population that is increasing the size of the middle class means that a billion-people economy is a substantial blessing, creating a huge consumer market which will be as sizeable as the US and European markets or even bigger. With his usual clear and engaging style, Davies outlines the opportunity India presents the US what he calls the 21st century opportunity and then goes on to show not only where the opportunities lie, but how to get into that thriving, exhilarating economy and create market leadership. From my twin points of view, this book is essential reading for all business people and with the threat of recession at home, grasping the opportunity that is India is even more essential. Look at the focus that the US Government has on trade with India and you will start to see why this book is absolutely on the button. –Rakesh Mittal, Global Executive and pioneer in Global Collaboration Industry

This second book by Paul Davies on the subject of doing business in India is based on a deep understanding of the realities of India and at the same time written by someone who is clearly an Indophile. The book is informative for those who are new to India or are encountering it in the early stages of doing business there. It helps with providing a reality check of the challenges. In this book India is seen as a market in itself rather than simply as a low cost centre and this shift in emphasis is important to those who want to do business in and with India. –Dr Shailendra Vyakarnam, Director, Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, Judge Business School, Cambridge University, Transitions, United Kingdom and the UK India Business Council

India is morphing in a way that even Indians do not fully understand this happens when you are a part of some enormous change. Paul Davies has added much of relevance to those who are determined not to miss the ‘biggest next bus’. A terrific read. –R Gopalakrishnan, Executive Director TATA Sons Limited
