America is in the midst of a great western trails renaissance. Our historic trails are now becoming better known, more fully appreciated, more carefully preserved, and more clearly marked. In an effort to preserve the country’s historic and recreational resources, Congress enacte the National Trails System Act in 1968. Trails have been added to the system over the years, and there are now 20 national historic and scenic trails, including the Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail.
