Review
Funny, poignant and illuminating. The best football novel in years. — POSITIVE MAGAZINE, May 2006
From the Publisher
Crime novelist Sylvester Young has done a fantastic job in creating so many vivid characters. Quite a number of schools bought this book for boys who are usually not into reading and the reaction of both pupils and teachers has been very enthusiastic. Part social history, it realistically recounts what it was like for black amateur footballers in the days before the Premier League. Definately this is a book for the young reader who is in touch with street culture.
From the Author
I based this story around a number of events and characters I knew of when growing up in Wolverhampton. As well as writing a story to entertain, I wanted to put on record what it was like for black players back in the 1970s and 80s. It is easy to forget in now we are in the era of black superstars how very different it was back twenty-five years ago
