Editorial Reviews

Review

“It is hard to find a textbook that gives a better basis for the understanding of Human metabolism and nutrition, that is so well designed and actually quite fun to read as this one. This book is my first choice for a textbook for my medical students and for nursing school too. It is well suited for any kind of studies of metabolism at a higher level because of its ease at explaining the basics and the frameworks needed for the understanding of metabolism. It is the first book I give to my doctorial students when they need to freshen up their knowledge and the basics in metabolism when starting research in clinical nutrition and metabolism…if anyone is looking for the most interesting and fun book to read as an in depth introduction to human metabolism and nutrition, this is it!” (Clinical Nutrition, December 2010)

From the Author

I wrote this book because I have studied human metabolism for many years, and I wanted an opportunity to communicate my enthusiasm for the topic, and to put over my personal view of how human metabolism `works’ in the setting of normal daily life. This is not a standard biochemistry textbook: it is more a description of `metabolic physiology’ in a human setting, and I hope that this makes it interesting and relevant for students and researchers in a variety of disciplines including medicine, nutrition, sports and exercise science and many others.

I have been flattered by many kind comments I have received about the two earlier editions. If you have read the earlier editions, I hope you like this one also: I have added new material and revised all the existing material, partly in response to comments I have received from readers. As you will see, it is now published in two colours which I think makes it look very attractive, but please be prepared to forgive the occasional oddity such as red blood cells appearing in a delicate shade of blue!
