“A clear and concise reference guide for the possible manual mobilizations a PT would have to do in a clinic. Kaltenborn is a Physio from Norway who specialized in Manul Therapy. With this text, he shares the foundations of manual practices in clinic as well as specific uses for each mob. Note this is not a book for the everyday person to pick up and self-certify in manual mobilization of the extremities but, in a clinical or academic setting, provide a good baseline of knowledge to use in an orthopedic setting. There are other approaches to manual therapy but this is my to to for all things mobilization.”

About the Author
Freddy M. Kaltenborn, PT, OMT
The late professor Kaltenborn introduced the principles of orthopedic manual therapy throughout Europe in the 1950s and over the next five decades was instrumental in establishing this practice specialty throughout the world. As a founding member of the International Federation of Manipulative Therapists his work laid the foundation for their standards of practice. Fifty years after their initial creation, his manual mobilization handbooks are still fundamental references for clinicians and students.
The use of multiple treatment techniques, often in one treatment session, has always been part of our system. For example, techniques to improve joint mobility are often preceded by pain-relief and soft-tissue-mobilization techniques such as functional massage and muscle stretching. Self-treatment is an important part of the Nordic OMT System and may include instruction in automobilization, autostretching, autotraction, strengthening, stabilization, and coordination exercises. Advice on body mechanics and ergonomics is important to maintain improvements gained in therapy and to prevent recurrences.
