Book Description
Lovisa was born in Southern Sweden. She loved eating fresh lettuce from her Grandmother’s garden. She called her Mormor. She loved to dress up her duck, Kia, with lettuce skirts. When she was 8 years old, her parents decided to move to America. They traveled by boat, and the trip took a long time. On the boat, there was no lettuce available, only potatoes and fish. When Lovisa arrived in America, everything was new and different. She longed for the lettuce from Sweden. To her surprise, she found the same lettuce at the Farmers Market in Seattle. Her mother bought some lettuce leaves for her, and some bright green lettuce leaves to make a new skirt for her duck. Together they danced to the steel drums at the Seattle Farmers Market, to celebrate finding the lettuce Lovisa loves in America!
