Editorial Reviews

Review

The book begins by introducing us to the cute models in the book, each sharing a little bit about themselves. You will enjoy their adorable expressions and poses throughout the book! Then the book goes into sewing supplies needed to complete the project, and then there’s a detailed but not too complicated section on different sewing techniques such as sewing ruffles, hand-stitching, applique, and something I had never tried but always wanted to: shirring. The book explains it so well that after just a few practices on some scrap fabric, I was ready to go! Then the book goes into all 54 tutorials divided up by type of refashion, such as how to fix clothing that’s the wrong size (too big, too small, too long, too short, etc), stained or torn clothing, and completely restyling clothing from one thing to another (such as a t-shirt to a necklace). I tried out one of the first tutorials in the book, what to do with a shirt that fits but is too short.

I followed the very clear and simple directions on how large to cut out my fabric, and I was amazed at how easy it is to shirr the waistband. It is so much cuter than just sewing the skirt to the t-shirt.
I cannot wait to try more of the tutorials in this book. The clothes in my mending basket cannot wait either! This is such a great way to give new life to your kids’ clothing (and I bet you could apply these techniques to grown-up clothing too!). (8/18/14)
