Book Description
In 2D design, space is extendible; it allows for endless varieties of shape and size in the creation of image and typography. 3D design offers this, as well as the possibility to arrange objects with multiple viewpoints and depths. Further, 4D creates the potential for dynamic motion of all these elements in space. Virtual space could be seen as a place where all these dimensions come together along with more abstract concepts as: the visualization of dreams, imagination, and mixed metaphors. “Letterforms in Mixed Space” uses typography as its primary design element. users in the space will begin by constructing 3D letterforms comprised of elements from 2D typefaces. When these forms are moved under a light source, users will be able to create images with movement that resemble a single recognizable letterform, an ligature of multiple letterforms, or abstract forms reminiscent of something else entirely. Users may also make choices about background and color. In the end, users are able to make personal designs, within the limitations presented, much in the same way as a designer might manipulate premade fonts within the virtual space of his or her computer.
