Book Description
Ready to unleash the power of visual effects? From explosive movie scenes to mind-bending game animations, this second edition pushes Blender 4.0+ beyond what you thought possible. Featuring a brand-new chapter on combining multiple simulations for a burning effect and updated guidance on rendering with EEVEE, this book takes your Blender expertise to new heights.
While Blender excels in 3D modeling and animation, this guide focuses specifically on VFX, helping you master realistic simulations using EEVEE and Cycles. You’ll explore five physics-based simulations—Fluid, Rigid Body, Soft Body, Cloth, and Dynamic Paint—learning essential settings, troubleshooting techniques, and practical workflows. Through nine hands-on projects, including fire, waterfalls, and explosions, you’ll develop the skills to create stunning digital effects. Written by a VFX specialist who has taught thousands through best-selling courses, this book will help you build an impressive portfolio of professional-quality VFX projects in Blender and bring your creative visions to life!

Editorial Reviews
Review
“This book guides readers through the difficult path of mastering simulations. Physics is a tricky subject: it involves fine-tuning many parameters and aggregating modeling, shading, and rendering techniques to convey realistic fire, liquids, and moving bodies. The author does a great job of describing the process with an ordinate and overarching explanation, providing examples that are generic enough for a potential start on most complex projects and profound enough to prompt mentions to more in-depth lore. I recommend this book to everyone interested in creating top-quality effects and motions with Blender.”

“This manual is highly recommended both for those approaching the simulation features of the open-source software for the first time and for those who want to deepen their knowledge and improve in this perhaps lesser-known area—the one involving all the various components needed to run simulations within Blender.
Mantaflow, along with other additions, allows the software to create impressive simulations that rival those made with software specifically dedicated to simulation. This manual discusses these capabilities in a detailed and technically thorough way.
Each chapter explores a different type of simulation available in Blender today in a simple yet in-depth manner, with clear and easy-to-follow examples. It allows both beginners and experienced users looking to deepen and consolidate their knowledge to fully understand the features available in the software.
I highly recommend this manual because I’ve rarely seen such a complex topic as simulation explained in such a clear and straightforward way as Stephen Pearson has done. Happy reading!”
