Book Description
Spanning three centuries and two countries, Ladies of the Shire weaves together the lives of eight individuals on their unforgettable, epic journey from the hay-meadows of Leicestershire, England to the mud and bloody artistry of 1914-18 France. From these trenches rises a retribution that will claim all they hold precious, demanding a sacrifice none ever thought would be asked of them……
Editorial Reviews
From the Author
‘Ladies of the Shire’ started life as a screenplay in 2000. Some four years later the finished script was ready for the industry’s opinion. All feedback, without exception, was very favourable but it was obvious that, as well received as it was, ‘Ladies of the Shire’ was never going to be taken up. Here we had a worthy screenplay but by an unkown author that would probably cost around 10 to 12 million to produce; not an attractive proposition for what is a notoriously conservative industry.
After the realisation had sunk in, I decided, in 2005, to re-write the work as a novel, letting the expensive set-pieces take place in the reader’s imagination, just as exciting and a whole lot cheaper!
‘Ladies of the Shire’ is a story of great depth and character that will have the reader laughing one minute and weeping the next; enjoy!
