Mechatronics Engineering is a multi-disciplinary field embodying fundamental disciplines like mechanical, electrical and electronics, computer and information technology. However, one identified challenge of students in this field is the lack of knowledge that synergized these sub-disciplines for broad understanding of Mechatronics Engineering at the fundamental levels. There are numerous good textbooks in Mechatronics Engineering but most are of basic assumptions that there is a good understanding of the sub-discipline for students. Though, while there exist a number of different courses like engineering mechanics, introduction to computer engineering, basic fluid mechanics, basic electric engineering among others covering the fundamental aspect of the sub-field, the scope and objective are not geared towards mechatronics designed concept.
This introductory book is a compilation of notes obtained from different recommended textbooks for Mechatronics Engineering. Other sources like journals, useful website, conference proceedings among others were also used and are all referenced for further reading by the students to learn on their own.
This book was compiled by Engr. Dr. Saheed Akande for almost a decade and rounded off during the COVID-19 global pandemic “ stay at home stay safe slogan”. The stay at home inevitable compulsory holiday gave the author the opportunity to spend ample time to complete the work. Having taught the course at the Afe Babalola University for almost a decade, the need for harmonization of some available study materials especially at the introductory level for the better understanding of the course by the lower class students was recognized. I strongly believe this book will open doors for further utilization of advanced books in various areas of mechatronics.
