Book Description
This short eBook features some common questions that dental patients in India may have regarding their teeth and oral health. Basic knowledge about teeth and dental treatment in India is still inaccessible for many. Even the educated middle class is unaware of their treatment options. Lack of knowledge often leads to irrational fear and apprehensions. It has been noticed that even the educated urban class has a deep-seated fear of dental procedures.
Whenever there is fear, superstition follows. Many myths have percolated deep into our culture, thus creating a gap between dentists and dental patients. A lot of unqualified quacks who may not possess the necessary knowledge and skill to pursue dentistry – have taken advantage of this scenario and widened the gap further by propagating the same myths. "Alternative" branches of medicine have also unfortunately aggravated the problems instead of helping solve them.
Sitting in my clinic and listening to patients’ queries about ‘toothworms’ and effect on eyesight from dental extraction – made me wonder if there was a serious need for a book that could disseminate this information to some extent at least. I began working on the common questions that I had to answer during dental consultations and soon, I had a huge list on my hands. I would be releasing this series in an easy-to-understand question-answer format. The purpose is to make this book series accessible to all dental patients for an easier dentist-patient interaction.
