This two-volume book serves a guide to the best popular music ever recorded and the artists who created and recorded it. The book covers a number of genres that comprise popular music including pop, rock, blues, jazz, country, reggae, hip hop, ragtime, folk, and others. The premier performers of these various genres are included here along with references to their best and definitive musical recordings. These guides cover a period of time spanning more than 100 years from the earliest recordings of ragtime and pop music and continuing up to the present day. These volumes include several musical styles such as traditional country and classic jazz music which have been largely ignored by similar reference guides of past years. This book has been arranged in alphabetical order from A to J and serves as the first volume of what will be a two-volume set.

About the Author
I am an avid record collector who has acquired thousands of recordings of popular music which encompass the genres of rock, jazz, blues, bluegrass, folk, and others. I am particularly interested in recordings of traditional jazz, blues and country music and the manner in which they have influenced modern pop music. The nearly forty that I have spent in pursuit of this interest compelled me to pen the popular music guides which appear on Amazon, “A Guide to Essential Popular Music-Volume 1” and “A Guide to Essential Popular Music-Volume 2.” I currently reside in China and was inspired to write these books as a means of introducing my Chinese friends to quality Western popular music. I am also an avid birder/bird photographer and pursue these endeavors with the same fervor with which I invest my musical interests.
