Book Description
A MUST-READ for every worship leader, whether preaching pastor, worship/tech team member, or choir director. Guitar or organ, rock or reverent: what does Scripture say about worship? Is God interested in what instruments are used, or is he more concerned with the condition of the heart that worships? Are there biblical principles that apply regardless of the style of music or the order of service? This little book expounds upon several essential passages of Scripture that collectively demonstrate principles that all Christians should follow when planning a service of worship. The books author, The Rev. Dr. Hughes Oliphant Old, is the Dean of the Institute for Reformed Worship at Erskine Theological Seminary in South Carolina. He has degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary and the University off Neuchȃtel in Switzerland. Before entering the world of writing, Old served for many years as a Presbyterian minister. His unique perspective as both pastor and theologian has helped him write many useful books for the contemporary church. These include Worship: Reformed According to Scripture (Westminster John Knox), and more recently his seven-volume series “The Reading and Preaching of the Scriptures in the Worship of the Christian Church” (Eerdmans, 1998-2010).
