From the Inside Flap
Filling a gap in the literature, this introduction to the topic covers the physics of the standard microwave diagnostics established on modern fusion experiments, and the necessary technological background from the field of microwave engineering. Written by well-known mm-wave diagnosticians in the field of fusion physics, the textbook includes such major diagnostic techniques as electron cyclotron emission, interferometry, reflectometry, polarimetry, and scattering.
From the contents:
• Fusion Research
• Millimeter-Waves in Plasmas
• Active Diagnostics
• Passive Diagnostics
• Guided Waves
• Radiation Generation and Detection
• Components and Subsystems
• Architecture of Realized Millimeter-Wave Diagnostic Systems
About the Author
Thomas Geist was with the Max-Planck-Institute for Plasma Physics from 1992 on, designing in co-operation Professor Hartfuß instruments for plasma diagnostics using millimeter waves. In 1998 he accepted a position with the Millimeter-wave Engineering Department of Cassidian Electronics at Ulm, Germany. His work is mainly related with receiver frontends and low noise oscillators.
