It teaches readers that the answers to sustainable weight loss have always been with them once they discover their God-Self. Food Consciousness provides the missing link to the mystery of why most diet books fail. It tackles the issue “head on” with a recipe of ingredients which use special healing techniques to prepare the reader’s soul to desire naturally healthy foods provided by God, Mother Nature and the Earth’s soil.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Food Consciousness is a rare treat. It is extremely helpful, delightfully written, and profoundly important. A growing body of scientific research suggests connections between spirituality, and both mental and physical health. Shannon connects nutrition to a very powerful driving force, spirituality, which has the potential to bring dieters more sustainable results than secular/traditional weight loss plans. Shannon is an academically trained dietitian who has recognized there must be a better solution to the obesity epidemic than the current means and methods. The fact that spirituality could be a viable intervention, is inventive, and science backs her intuitive thought. –Harold G. Koenig, M.D. Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences

Food Consciousness helps promote the importance of healthy food choices and environmental integrity by focusing on the important symbiosis between mind, body, spirit and mother earth. It’s a wonderful example of how we can aspire to live a conscientious life on this planet.” –Ronda Rutledge, Executive Director of Sustainable Food Center

Food Consciousness points out very uniquely that the heart of dieter s problems, food struggles and losing weight is not solved by looking outside of themselves, but have always been present within them. Within the pages of Food Consciousness is Shannon s recognition that traditional dieting plans and programs are failing, as obesity continues to climb in this country and globally. Food Consciousness is a new approach, combining spirituality and nutrition that is an important read for anyone who really wants to begin to embrace the fundamental integrity and wisdom of their body and eat consciously from that place. –Dale Goldstein, LCSW Author of Heartwork: How To Get What You Really, REALLY Want.

About the Author

For more than twenty years, Shannon has transformed people s health using preventative nutrition interventions and counseling. Shannon has both a bachelor s and master s degrees in foods and nutrition and is professionally credentialed as a licensed dietitian and nutritionist. She is breaking new ground by including in her nutritional counseling the center piece of all center pieces….God. Shannon believes your relationship with God and your God-Self affect every other relationship, including your relationship with food. Shannon utilizes a more natural and holistic nutritional model inspired from her employment with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, where she was drawn to the stories told by the medicine man about how the Seminoles were in tune with nature as their physician. This experience re-awakened her to a very old truth by Hippocrates: let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food. Armed with this new inspiration, Shannon did extensive research during her graduate studies regarding heart disease and the many natural, therapeutic benefits of foods, such as: citrus for cholesterol management; plants like aloe vera and spices like cinnamon that improve glucose control; and superfruits that reduce inflammation and build immunity just to name a few. Shannon considers herself a spiritual impact teacher as much as a professional and passionate nutrition teacher. She engages regularly in the practice of meditation, energy healings, acupuncture, Bikram yoga, and swimming. She lives in Austin, Texas, where her family resides, volunteers for local farmers markets, and practices what she believes.
