The Flagellar World: Electron Microscopic Images of Bacterial Flagella and Related Surface Structures

This work offers a unique publication with many EM images of flagella never shown before. It fills a specific niche that shows flagella in several varied organisms with a short description accompanied by exceptional pictures that will add to any lecture on the topic. The intent of the book is not to provide an in-depth biochemical or molecular biology exploration of the flagella field, but to be a pictorial book with a short accompanying description of the system in each organism. The book is a historical document of years of research and a repository for data collected over a large part of Dr. Aizawa s productive career, which is not available elsewhere and may well be lost to the scientific world without a proper outlet such as this book.

Professor Aizawa graduated from the Department of Physics of Tohoku University in 1974. After obtaining a Ph.D.(Biophysics) at Nagoya University in 1980, he went to Yale University, Department of Biophysics & Biochemistry as a Postdoc under the supervision of Dr. Robert M. Macnab, then returned to Japan in 1985.
