Book Description

Jess returns from a nightmare day at school to find her dad’s been suspended from work and gone into hiding. To escape the slobbering newshounds all eager for the full story, Mum drags Jess and her sister off to a remote Scottish island. Modern technology’s forbidden, and there’s only a bunch of teenage über geeks for company. Without Facebook or even her mobile, Jess feels totally disconnected- from everybody back home. But why are they there anyway? What are they really running away from?

Editorial Reviews

Review

‘Packham is hugely consistent and if it was possible, I’d pre-order his next novel right now without needing to know anything about it.’ –Bookbag – http://www.thebookbag.co.uk/reviews/index.php?title=Firewallers_by_Simon_Packham

‘With Jess in year 10, I think this is probably suited to the 12-15 reader and hopefully it emphasises the ‘innocent until proven guilty’ message that so many people ignore.’ –ourbookreviewsonline – http://ourbookreviewsonline.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/firewallers-by-simon-packham.html

‘The only books permitted in the young adult section of the Dawdler library are timeless classics like Black Beauty, What Katy Did at School and Swallows and Amazons. But whilst retaining a lingering affection for the leisurely pace and innocence of books where girls called Titty could spend whole summers messing about in boats, I’m glad to be writing at a time when fiction for younger readers is allowed to venture into more controversial territory.’ –Simon Packham on Firewallers – http://www.yacontemporary.com/2013/05/guest-post-simon-packham-on-his-new.html

About the Author

Simon Packham read drama at Manchester University. He was a stand-up comedian
and then an actor for twenty years (if you didn’t blink you might have caught him on
The Bill, or standing next to Dame Judy Dench in a mask) before becoming a writer.
He has published four previous books with Piccadilly, all about children who attend
the fictional St Thomas’s Community College. He is married to a headmistress, and has two teenage children who both give him invaluable advice on his writing.
