“This book is clearly written, easy to understand, and comprehensive. Because of the extensive descriptions, it is a helpful resource for scientists conducting research in separation science, workers engaged in separation-related industries, and students studying analytical chemistry.” –Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry online, June 23, 2013
From the Back Cover
Essentials in Modern HPLC Separations, based on new developments in the field, explains the role of separation in HPLC, the types and characteristics of stationary and mobile phases used in this technique, as well as other factors influencing the separation. The selection process of stationary and mobile phases for a specific separation is described as it relates to the physicochemical characteristics of the molecules to be separated and of their matrix.
Key features:
- Portrays the importance of modern HPLC for applications, particularly for the analysis of pharmaceutical, biological, food and beverage, and environmental samples
- Provides insight into the chromatographic process to help you find solutions for the analysis of difficult samples
- Illustrates the interrelation between various HPLC features (column, solvent, separation parameters, and detection) to help you choose conditions for a good HPLC technique and its optimization
About the Author
Dr. Serban C. Moldoveanu held several teaching positions at the University of Bucharest, Romania, until 1983, when he immigrated to the United States. There, he continued teaching at the university level for several years before focusing primarily on industrial research. He served as Senior Principal Scientist at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and retired at the end of 2023. His research has centered on various aspects of chromatography, including method development for the analysis of natural products using GC/MS, HPLC, and LC/MS/MS. He has also investigated the pyrolysis of a variety of polymers and organic compounds. Dr. Moldoveanu has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 8 books with Elsevier, approximately 22 patents/patent applications, and several book chapters. He was honored with the Tobacco Science Research Conference Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 and currently serves as an editor for three chemistry journals.
Victor David was a Professor and Head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry, University of Bucharest, Romania. Recently retired, he remains Emeritus Professor at the same Department. His main field of research is separation science (theory and applications in various scientific domains). He is the author of more than 200 publications, including over 150 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals and 25 books and chapters. He is member of editorial board of Biomedical Chromatography, Molecules, Journal of Essential Oil-Bearing Plants and Revue Roumaine de Chimie.
