′This is a book that even the most confirmed qualitative researcher can highly recommend to students. And for any course in quantitative methods it would be my first choice. The clear and interesting communicative style draws in the reader both to an understanding of some of the basis building blocks of quantitative research but also to some of answers to critiques of certain ways of using statistics. Those wanting just to be able to understand quantitative research as well as the statistically unsure wanting to use it are unlikely to be disappointed. There is a growing need for Daniel Muijs′s text also in order to respond to the burgeoning in interest in mixed methodology′ –
Professor Liz Todd, Newcastle University
This text is very useful for introducing quantitative data methods and explains the ideas clearly, often relating them to other kinds of research. This gives an appropriate context for the research approach discussed and is helpful for letting students make connections with suggested techniques and their own research. If adopting a quantitative approach the text goes into detail in how to plan and design a project giving useful examples and further reading for clarification along the way. — Dr Alaster Douglas ―

This is not a book for all students, but for those who are interested to carry out quantitative data analysis it is clear and helpful. It is particularly recommended for PhD students. It also serves as a valuable resource for research assistants and others who might not be fully familiar with the use of SPSS. — Dr Maria Cristina Devecchi ―

I have just finished exploring the second edition of the Muijs text and I wish to state that I have found this edition even more helpful that the previous one. Clear, succinct explanations within the text and supplementary digital resources offer excellent guidance to new, and not-so- new, students/ researchers attempting to understand how to use SPSS effectively. I regret that, without consultation with more experienced colleagues, I am currently unable to list the text as ′Essential′, however, I will continue to recommend this text to colleagues and students alike. — Mrs Mary Welsh ―

Good as a library book to dip into when researching methods but too much for our research project. Recommend if as a reference book in the library. — Ms Helen Thomas ―
