Editorial Reviews

Review

There are lots of books showing you how to string beads, weave with them or make jewelry out of various types of clay, but this book takes a sidestep to all that and shows you how to make unique jewelry out of all manner of things. You won t need to go to the store to find many of them, and some don t cost anything at all. Ready for a recycler s dream? This book is certainly that. All kinds of unlikely items get pressed into service and come out looking different and interesting. Got some odd metal buttons? How about making bezels for them to make them into cabochons. If you are a papercrafter you might possess some rubber stamps. Don t just make cards with them, press them into polymer clay to make textured beads. Rub on transfers, have a go with shrink plastic, ransack your oddments box and make your own clasps… it is all about having a go with a little and coming up with a stylish piece that says a lot. Odd beads and bits of broken jewelry have never looked so chic. I couldn t take my eyes (or hands) off this user-friendly book that got me thinking of all sorts of new ideas after I had tried some of theirs. I also liked the fact that it was a mine of ideas, which didn t require you to obtain certain materials to reproduce pieces. Overseas readers (i.e. anybody outside the States) ought to be able to make most things. One for the keeper shelf, or a good present for anybody who likes making jewelry and has lots of bits and pieces. –MyShelf.com
