Book Description
Crocheters, knitters, beaders, and wireworkers alike will relish this innovative approach to creating necklaces, earrings, and bracelets (some in sets), quirky boxes, and delicate but functional baskets. Those new to crochet receive a chapter on basic crochet techniques including how to get started, finishing off, tube crocheting, adding new wire, and planning projects-all presented with plenty of illustrations. Nancie M. Wiseman, author of Knitting with Wire, also discusses which crochet hooks to use, the tools required, and how to choose the wire gauge to suit the project. A creative collection of 30 projects, presented with clear instructions and beautiful photographs, includes jewelry sets such as a bead encrusted necklace and bracelet; silver and crystals necklace, bracelet, and earrings; as well as several charming box and basket projects. Also included are beading charts and a resource guide. Crocheting with wire instead of yarn adds a fun and exciting dimension to this time-honored craft.
Editorial Reviews
Review
When I first came across the title of the book it wasn’t an entirely new concept to me. A few years ago I had been amazed to see some beautiful and delicate creations made by a lacemaker using very fine wire, so I was curious to see a book using a seemingly simpler technique to create jewellery. This book caters for those seeking only to used simpler crochet techniques like single or half double crochet to those who get hooked and progress to using a ripple, filet, Tunisian stitch or adding beads whilst working. She explains clearly about wire gauges and what crochet hooks to use and tools you need. Once thats done you dive right into how to do the stitches, adding beads to your work and the many projects that will take you up to experienced levels and making a box! I can definately see some getting into this style of making jewellery and look forward to seeing some beautiful creations in the years to come at a variety of events. –Pentacle, Samhain, Winter 2007, Issue 23
