About the Author

About the Editors

Yushim Kim is a policy scholar whose research bridges public policy and computational approaches. Her innovative work applies complex systems thinking and advanced modeling techniques to pressing urban and environmental challenges. Kim’s studies on green space access, environmental justice, and public health emergencies have significantly contributed to our understanding of urban dynamics and policy responses. Her pioneering use of agent-based modeling and spatial analysis in examining social equity issues has opened new avenues for policy research. She has co-authored two books: Rethinking Environmental Justice in Sustainable Cities: Insights from Agent-Based Modeling (Routledge, 2015) and Green Gentrification and Environmental Justice: A Complexity Approach to Policy (Springer, 2024).

About the Contributor

Jaehyuk Cha is a computer scientist whose research covers bioinformatics, technology enhanced learning, computational social science, and the storage I/O issues of computer systems. His work applies emerging computing techniques to the challenges of traditional disciplines including system biology, learning science, and social science. And Cha’s studies on computer systems have significantly enhanced the storage I/O performance of computer systems with NAND flash-based storage. He has co-authored the chapter of one book: Representation and Retrieval of Visual Media in Multimedia Systems (Springer, 1996).

Yong Suk Choi was born in Republic of Korea, in 1969. He received the BS, MS, and PhD degrees in computer science from Seoul National University, Seoul, South Korea, in 1993, 1995, and 2000, respectively. He joined Hanyang University, Seoul, in 2001, after working with the Telecommunication Research Laboratory, Samsung Electronics Company, from 1997 to 2001. He is currently a Professor with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hanyang University, Korea. His research interests include deep learning algorithms, text understanding and summarization, large language models, image translation, visual question and answering, and multi-modal AI.

Seongkyung Cho is an Assistant Professor of Public Policy and a faculty member in the Digital Innovation Research Center at Duke Kunshan University. Her research focuses on housing policy, as well as digital policy and governance, with a particular interest in their intersection. She examines how institutional contexts, policy actors, and emerging technologies shape policy adoption and implementation. She earned her PhD in Public Administration and Policy from Arizona State University, and her work has been published in journals such as Urban Affairs Review, Housing Policy Debate, and Government Information Quarterly.

Elizabeth A Corley’s research focuses on environmental policy and management, with particular attention to green infrastructure and nature-based solutions for local governments. She bridges public policy, environmental planning, and urban sustainability, producing research that connects community needs with institutional decision-making. Her work on green space access, urban park quality, and environmental planning has advanced understanding of the social and organizational dimensions of environmental policy. She is co-author of Urban Environmental Policy Analysis (Routledge, 2012), and her recent articles appear in Landscape and Urban Planning, Urban Forestry & Urban Greening, Environment and Behavior, and Environmental Justice.
