Editorial Reviews
Review
The modifications covered in Chevelle Performance Projects tend to lean towards the ‘Pro Touring’ style of altering classic cars, where upgrades are intended not just to add power, but also to improve handling, comfort, reliability and so on. To this end, author Cole Quinnell covers both enhancements to traditional small- and big-block engines, plus engine swaps involving the popular late model LS-series V-8. Along the way, Quinnell does a good job of providing tips and tricks on the details of each job, and the photography illustrating the steps is consistently excellent (there are 418 colour images). As a former enthusiast magazine editor with tenures at Hot Rod, 4Wheel & Off Road and others, Quinnell has gleaned much knowledge of the performance aftermarket and what is involved with making the best use of its offerings – there’s lots of insight here for the Chevelle enthusiast looking to make performance alterations. The 160-page book even includes a source guide to help track down the manufacturers and vendors of the highlighted hardware. –Hemmings Muscle Machines, September, 2013
You don’t hear a great deal about Chevrolet’s mid-sized Chevelles in this country, yet there are plenty about. If you are lucky enough to own one from the Sixties you have the satisfaction of knowing that for most years the spares availability and number of spare parts that are produced for this underrated muscle car are simply amazing. Produced from 1964 to 1977, it proved to be one of Chevrolet’s most popular marques, with factory performance options and special editions….follows the established style of concise, informative text and colour photos. it features upgrades to chassis, steering, rear axle, wheels, brakes, wiring and the interior. There are chapters on upgrading the engine, plus popular engine swaps, installing overdrive transmissions and improving fuel flow, exhaust efficiency and engine cooling. Broken down into practical projects, the pictures are clear and the text easy to understand. Most go-faster parts required should be on-line or by old fashioned telephone. This is a good primer for those Chevelle owners who want to improve their car’s performance and an indication of what can be done for those who might be considering the purchase of one. A useful manual. –Classic American, December, 2013
