Grade 8 Up—Written specifically for teens or their family members who have cancer, this volume will be a helpful, authoritative resource that should lead readers to further information about it. Updated from the 2004 volume, it offers information that is current, accurate, and accessible. The book is broad in scope; the first of six sections includes a scientific explanation of cancer on the molecular level as well as a discussion of risk factors like human papillomavirus (HPV) and tobacco use. Other sections address cancers most common in teens (such as leukemia and lymphoma), diagnosing and treating it, coping with the effects of treatment, and dealing with afflicted friends and family members.
