Don Athaldo (1894-1965) was a stage name of Walter Joseph who was very weak as a child and couldn’t walk properly until the age of five. He started his career in a circus as strongman performer, but was equally involved in boxing and many other popular sports at that time. In the 1920’s he published his most popular book, “Health, Strength & Muscular Power”, followed by a sequel – “Meet Don Athaldo”.

One of his most popular feats of strength was pulling a car loaded with six passengers for more than 800 meters up the hill. Since he had various health issues through his life, Don Athaldo focused on the most important things in life: Diet, Fresh Air and Dynamic Tension. He claimed that this trio would prevent bad habits, cancer, bad breath, virile weakness and help in developing a pleasing personality.
