The narrative’s different voices take up the tale at various points. For example, Dr. Malcolm Leckie was the actual medical officer for the novel’s soldiers St. George protects and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s brother-in-law is the main character in Book Two, first living, then a spirit that survives death.
