An immigrant educator, Ifedi (English, Central State U., and qualitative research, Ashland U.) presents her doctoral dissertation, which studies the experiences of African-born female professors in the US, an area not previously addressed in research. In addition to examining their experiences and the meaning they have constructed from them, she uses Black feminist thought, Africana feminism, and critical race theory in her analysis. She interviewed nine women from four different countries who had at least three years of higher education experience, looking at common themes about identity, career obstacles, racism, gender, and other issues.
