Adaptive Optics for Industry and Medicine: Proceedings of the 4th International Workshop, Münster, Germany, Oct. 19-24, 2003 2005th Edition

This book treats the development and application of adaptive optics for industry and medicine. The contributions describe recently developed components for adaptive-optics systems such as deformable mirrors, wavefront sensors, and mirror drivers as well as complete adaptive optical systems and their applications in industry and medicine. Applications range from laser-beam forming and adaptive aberration correction for high-power lasers to retinal imaging in ophthalmology. The contributions are based on presentations made at the 4^th International Workshop on Adaptive Optics in Industry and Medicine which took place in Münster, Germany, in October 2003. This highly successful series of workshops on adaptive optics started in 1997 and continues with the 5^th workshop in Beijing in 2005.

Ulrich Wittrock studied physics at the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt, Germany, and at the State University of New York at Buffalo, USA, where he received the Master’s degree in physics in 1988. In 1988 he began graduate study at the Technical University of Berlin in the research group of Prof. Weber. He received the Ph.D. degree from the Technical University of Berlin in 1993. Since 1995 he is professor at the University of Applied Sciences at Muenster in the Department of Applied Physics. In 2002 he spent a sabbatical at Stanford University. Ulrich Wittrock developed several new concepts for solid state lasers. His early and continuing interest is the influence of thermo-optical aberrations on laser resonators. His current research activities include adaptive optics for solid state lasers and advanced diode-pumped solid state lasers.
