Academic Communication Skills is designed to assist international graduate students as they create their own opportunities to expand their linguistic and strategic repertoires in academic English conversations. While they recognize the importance, many voice frustrations, finding that speaking English is more difficult than writing and engaging in impromptu dialogues is more difficult than presenting prepared monologues.

About the Author

Li-Shih Huang, assistant professor of applied linguistics and learning and teaching scholar at the University of Victoria, has a decade of EAP (English for academic purposes) and EAL (English as an additional language) instructional and curriculum design experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She was also the recipient of TESOL’s Award for Excellence in the Development of Pedagogical Materials.
