Michael Jabara Carley, holds a doctorate from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and is professor of history at the Université de Montréal. He has published widely in twentieth-century international politics, notably Soviet relations with the West and the origins of World War II. Based on extensive research in U.S., British, French, and Soviet archives, his histories are narrated in an engaging style that brings watershed moments to life. Among his many publications are 1939: The Alliance That Never Was and the Coming of World War II (Ivan R. Dee, 1999), which has also been published in French, Russian, and Italian editions, and Revolution & Intervention: The French Government and the Russian Civil War, 1917-1919 (McGill-Queen’s University Press, 1983).
