Book Description

Andrew Cohen is a controversial character. Enlightened teacher, evolutionary philosopher, revolutionary idealist and vocal cultural critic, he has sparked both rage and passion in the post-modern spiritual world. Uncompromising in his call for human transformation, people either love him or hate him. No one feels neutral. Why is it that Andrew Cohen has so angered some and so inspired others? Why is it that as a spiritual teacher with no tradition behind him he was invited to address the Parliament of World Religions in 2004? It is because of his ruthless deconstruction of cultural givens, his relentless quest to see things as they are and explore them in the light of liberated consciousness and his unyielding demand for integrity. In “Eleven Days at the Edge: A Journey into Evolutionary Enlightenment”, you will join the author on a retreat with Andrew to find this out firsthand, and also to discover a radical new spiritual paradigm that reinterprets the traditional revelation of enlightenment in the context of an evolving universe. The emergence of this paradigm helps us to discover that intersection between our spiritual longing, and our care for the world, where both are radically empowered to reach heights that neither could reach alone.

Editorial Reviews

Review

If you have wanted to go away on an 11-day retreat with spiritual teacher Andrew Cohen but haven’t been able to do it, this book will serve as an excellent substitute. In the summer of 2005, the author went to Montserrat, Spain, where he spent 11 days with his spiritual teacher. Luckily for us, he transcribed what took place and was given permission to share it with us. This is a 498-page book filled with wisdom; wisdom that will challenge much of what you think and believe, even if you have been on your spiritual journey for awhile. The retreat addressed enlightenment on both a personal and collective level and Cohen went very deep with the students. What I like about the book is that it is written in such a way that the reader can feel they are actually present in the room, eavesdropping while students ask questions and the teacher gives very pointed answers. The author is very generous in sharing his own thoughts, doubts, insights, and feelings which adds to the depth of the material. Not so much a book to be read, 11 Days at the Edge is one to be experienced, pondered, and befriended. The information contained in the book has the potential to move the reader into a deeper understanding of life itself. –New Spirit Journal

“Epic in scope and purpose.” –Barbara Marx Hubbard, author, Conscious Evolution: Awakening Our Social Potential

“The clarity, simplicity and integrity of Andrew Cohen’s teaching offer important guidance for modern spiritual seekers. Michael Wombacher captures it in a lively, honest account of his experience during an eleven-day retreat.” –John White, author, The Meeting of Science & Spirit and What is Enlightenment?

About the Author

Mike Wombacher was born in Germany in 1959. When he was ten his family emigrated to the United States. Since then he has lived in New York, Miami and currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 1983 he graduated from Florida State University with a Master’s Degree in International Relations, spent eight years working in the corporate world and has started several businesses. He currently earns his living as a dog trainer and behaviour expert, having self-published two books on the subject. He has written several short articles for What is Enlightenment? magazine and co-wrote and published a book with his previous teacher.Mike has been deeply involved in the post-modern spiritual scene for over twenty-five years. In Andrew Cohen’s teaching he found the place where his spiritual longing intersected with his care for the world in such a way that each empowered the other, radically potentiating both. As a writer he has long desired to chronicle the development of this teaching, the personal and cultural resistance to it, and the promise inherent in it based on the real-time experience of a growing group of individuals, himself included. It was this passion that compelled him to write of his experience of attending a long retreat with Andrew Cohen in the summer of 2005 in Montserrat, Spain.Mike is currently involved in bringing the vision described in this book to life in the world. Not only is he ‘after years of hesitation’ intensely involved with Andrew Cohen as a spiritual teacher, he has also been authorised to teach courses on Evolutionary Enlightenment, which he does around the Bay Area and the West Coast.
