This book examines the digitalization of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia and its challenges in the context of an emerging economy and the Covid-19 crisis. During the Covid-19 pandemic, business digitalization became a must for a business to avoid collapse and people saw that digital transformation is a panacea for SMEs to help them survive and revive from the crises. Govements and other stakeholders in many countries including Indonesia have launched policies and programs to support SMEs. Transforming SMEs' conventional businesses into digitalized versions, however, is a complex issue influenced by various factors. These factors encompass both inteal changes within the organization and exteal dynamics in the ecosystem in which they operate. This book, therefore, is a new approach towards understanding the digitalization of SMEs in Indonesia and includes contributions from scholars with different, multi-disciplinary perspectives and demonstrates that digital transformation of SMEs is not all about technology adoption but also involves other aspects such as social, economic, and public goveance factors. It discusses opportunities and challenges of digital transformation of SMEs in Indonesia, such as digital talent, financial inclusion, platform capitalism, automation, govement’s role, goveance, open competition, and inclusive digital economy. About the Author
Trina Fizzanty is Senior Researcher at the Research Organization of Social Sciences and Humanities, National Research and Innovation Agency. She is principal investigator for the research project “The Development of Digital Economy Ecosystem of SMEs in Indonesia” (2020-2021). She holds a PhD degree from The University of Queensland, Australia in Integrative System (supply chain management). Her research area is in the management of innovation and R&D. She has published her research in inteational joual and books. She works collaboratively with other scholars on several inteational research projects and has also worked as a reviewer for inteational jouals and books (LIPI Press).Ikbal Maulana is Senior Researcher at the Research Center of Society and Culture, National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). He has a master’s degree in computer engineering and has worked as programmer and system analyst before becoming a researcher and pursuinga PhD degree in philosophy. His current research interests are the impact of information technology on society and democracy, philosophy of technology, and social epistemology.
