Review
“Fresh, funny, energetic and unlike anything else on Broadway. Chinglish is a thoughtful, funny and poignant piece in which, miraculously, nothing gets lost in translation.” Associated Press
“A witty study in mode-day miscommunication, that erupts into explosive laughter.” Michael Sommers, New Jersey Newsroom
“Marvelous . . . the conceit is elegantly of a piece, yet Hwang is able to keep tuing it in on itself to reveal new ambiguities, absurdities, subversions and paradoxes.”Tony Adler, Chicago Reader
“Hwang’s plays collectively chart the evolving definition of what it is to be an ‘American.’ . . . His art has illuminated and anticipated our ongoing national story with a sensibility unlike any other in the American theater.”Frank Rich, New York Times
Cultural Advice:Go see Chinglish! Engaging and 100% recognizable.” James Fallows, Atlantic
Hwang’s text has no weaknesses, the product of a deft writer and observer of human nature working at the top of his game. His tragicomic masterpiece of failed communication captures the complexities of all human relationships.” Eric Marchese, Backstage
