Book Description
This new publication titled ‘Aporrimata’- (‘rejects or refuse’) – of the poet and playwright Criton Tomazos, from ‘Akakia Publications’, comprises three texts in all, two poetry collections with the titles: ‘Epigrammatic’ and ‘Aegean Prow’ and a theatre piece called: ‘Dialogues, trilogues, tetralogues’. On the plain surface they do not constitute a sequence and they are certainly independent works, which can live separately from each other. But, like perhaps in the work of every writer or poet, there is another surface, where seemingly unrelated works acquire a deeper relationship, cohesion and continuity, since they emanate from the same core of thinking and inspiration and are imprinted as a continuation of thought and expression, even though they were written in a different time and dissimilar places and situations. The poems are more dense and laconic than the longer narrative, lyrical or other poems of his and the dialogues are close to an austere frugality, which wards off excesses in dramatic tension, adventures in the plot or exaltations and eccentricities of imaginary characters. The few pictures illustrating the publication are from original paintings by the writer and artist. The rest is up to the sensitivity and orientation of each reader.
